GLACIER 3000

Last year i got really interested in film photography through school, so I decided to pick up a cheap Canon EOS 650 and a roll of Ilford HP5 Plus to experiment with. I took the camera with me to Switzerland and up to Glacier 3000, a high-altitude spot in the Swiss Alps known for its amazing views and the Peak Walk suspension bridge. It felt like the perfect place to test out shooting on film, capturing the cold textures, bright snow and huge mountain landscapes in a more raw and timeless way.

Videos

I’ve always been interested in videos, and recently I decided to try creating my own. I took my drone to Glacier 3000 in Switzerland and filmed a short video, experimenting with the stunning views of clouds rolling over the mountains and the high-altitude bridge. I edited the footage in DaVinci Resolve, my first time using the app, and it was a great experience learning how to bring the shots to life.

About the Image

This photograph was taken at the Jaguar Wildlife Rescue Centre in Lamont, Costa Rica, during a surf trip with two friends. It shows a Macaw turning its head, tucking its beak into its vibrant feathers, as it paused to look back at me. I captured the image with my Canon R6 Mark II and 100–400mm lens, using a shutter speed of 1/1000, an aperture of f/16, a focal length of 800mm, and ISO 10,000 to freeze the motion and highlight the vivid colours. I entered the photo into my first ever PhotoCrowd competition under the “Animals” category and was thrilled to win first place.

Judge’s Comment – Joshua Galicki

“The portrait is striking in its simplicity; it’s overflowing with colour. The deep black background isolates the subject beautifully, letting the scarlet, yellow, and blue feathers radiate in vivid detail. The bird’s eye peeking through adds just the right amount of mystery and personality—a perfect balance of form, colour, and intimacy. Wonderful work!”
